23 Quran Verse About Peace and Forgiveness
Peace and a culture of forgiveness are important factors in life. In this world, of course all human beings never escape mistakes. Thus, one solution to correcting mistakes is to apologize and try not to repeat the same actions in the future.
But unlike apologizing, forgiving isn't really an easy thing. Everyone can apologize, but not everyone can fully forgive. Forgiving certainly requires a field of heart, sincerity and also a great soul. Especially if, the mistakes made cause considerable effect and hurt one's feelings so deep.
Allah said, "Good words and forgiveness are better than charity. God is Rich and Forbearing." – (QS. Al-Baqarah : 263).
In Islam, forgiveness has a very high spiritual value. The question of forgiving is also an indicator of disingness in a person. Of course, forgiveness plays an important role in the construction of a solid foundation of peace between others. This must be done to eliminate the grudge and hatred that can damage human relationships. Here we will present some verses of the Quran explaining about forgiveness and peace.
Quran Verse About Peace
Peace is one of the essential needs in human life. In order to realize the peace, a harmonious relationship is needed, and mutual respect between each other. In the Qur'an, God has commanded mankind to live in peace regardless of differences and to avoid hostility.

Here will be presented some verses of the Qur'an about peace:
1. Quran Al – Hujurat Verse 10
إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ فَأَصْلِحُوا۟ بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْكُمْ ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
Innamal-mu`minụna ikhwatun fa aṣliḥụ baina akhawaikum wattaqullāha la'allakumtur-ḥamụn
"Surely the believers are brothers, so make peace between your two brothers, and fear Allah that you may receive mercy."
2. Quran An – Nisa Verse 114
لَّا خَيْرَ فِى كَثِيرٍ مِّن نَّجْوَىٰهُمْ إِلَّا مَنْ أَمَرَ بِصَدَقَةٍ أَوْ مَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ إِصْلَٰحٍۭ بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ ۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ ٱبْتِغَآءَ مَرْضَاتِ ٱللَّهِ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
Laa khayra fii katsiirin min najwaahum illaa man amara bishadaqatin aw ma’ruufin aw ishlaahin bayna alnnaasi waman yaf’al dzaalika ibtighaa-a mardaati allaahi fasawfa nu/tiihi ajran ‘azhiimaan
"There is no good in most of their chatter, except from one who enins charity, or does good, or to improve relations between people. And whoever does this in search of Allah's pleasure, We shall give him a great reward."
3. Quran Al – Anfal Verse 61
وَإِن جَنَحُوا۟ لِلسَّلْمِ فَٱجْنَحْ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
Wa in janaḥụ lis-salmi fajnaḥ lahā wa tawakkal 'alallāh, innahụ huwas-samī'ul-'alīm
And if they incline to peace, then lean towards it and put their trust in Allah. He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.
4. Quran Ali Imran Verse 103
وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟ بِحَبْلِ ٱللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا۟ ۚ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ كُنتُمْ أَعْدَآءً فَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِكُمْ فَأَصْبَحْتُم بِنِعْمَتِهِۦٓ إِخْوَٰنًا وَكُنتُمْ عَلَىٰ شَفَا حُفْرَةٍ مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ فَأَنقَذَكُم مِّنْهَا ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ
Wai’tashimuu bihabli allaahi jamii’an walaa tafarraquu waudzkuruu ni’mata allaahi ‘alaykum idz kuntum a’daa-an fa-allafa bayna quluubikum fa-ashbahtum bini’matihi ikhwaanan wakuntum ‘alaa syafaa hufratin mina alnnaari fa-anqadzakum minhaa kadzaalika yubayyinu allaahu lakum aayaatihi la’allakum tahtaduuna.
And hold on to the ropes of Allah, and do not divorce them, and remember Allah's favour upon you when you were enemies. And you have been on the brink of hell, and God has delivered you from it. Thus does Allah explain His signs to you that you may be guided.
5. Quran Al – Hujurat Verse 09
وَإِن طَآئِفَتَانِ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱقْتَتَلُوا۟ فَأَصْلِحُوا۟ بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَإِنۢ بَغَتْ إِحْدَىٰهُمَا عَلَى ٱلْأُخْرَىٰ فَقَٰتِلُوا۟ ٱلَّتِى تَبْغِى حَتَّىٰ تَفِىٓءَ إِلَىٰٓ أَمْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَإِن فَآءَتْ فَأَصْلِحُوا۟ بَيْنَهُمَا بِٱلْعَدْلِ وَأَقْسِطُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُقْسِطِينَ
wa-in thaa-ifataani mina almu/miniina iqtataluu fa-ashlihuu baynahumaa fa-in baghat ihdaahumaa ‘alaa al-ukhraa faqaatiluu allatii tabghii hattaa tafii-a ilaa amri allaahi fa-in faa-at fa-ashlihuu baynahumaa bial’adli wa-aqsithuu inna allaaha yuhibbu almuqsithiina
"And if there are two groups of them who believe in war, let them be at peace between them. But if one breaks the covenant against the other, let the one who breaks the covenant fight until it recedes again at the command of Allah. If he has receded, make peace between them according to justice, and be just; Verily, Allah loves those who are just."
6. Quran An – Nisa Verse 90
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍۭ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُم مِّيثَٰقٌ أَوْ جَآءُوكُمْ حَصِرَتْ صُدُورُهُمْ أَن يُقَٰتِلُوكُمْ أَوْ يُقَٰتِلُوا۟ قَوْمَهُمْ ۚ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَسَلَّطَهُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ فَلَقَٰتَلُوكُمْ ۚ فَإِنِ ٱعْتَزَلُوكُمْ فَلَمْ يُقَٰتِلُوكُمْ وَأَلْقَوْا۟ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلسَّلَمَ فَمَا جَعَلَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ سَبِيلًا
illaa alladziina yashiluuna ilaa qawmin baynakum wabaynahum miitsaaqun aw jaauukum hashirat shuduuruhum an yuqaatiluukum aw yuqaatiluu qawmahum walaw syaa-a allaahu lasallathahum ‘alaykum falaqaataluukum fa-ini i’tazaluukum falam yuqaatiluukum wa-alqaw ilaykumu alssalama famaa ja’ala allaahu lakum ‘alayhim sabiilaan
"Except those who seek refuge in a people who between you and the people have a treaty, or those who come to you, whose hearts are objecting to fighting you and fighting their people. Had Allah willed, He would have given them power over you, and they would have fought you. but if they leave you, and do not fight you and make peace with you, Then Allah will not make way for you."
QURAN VERSE ABOUT FORGIVENESS
In Islam, harboring a grudge against others is an unjustified act. Therefore in order to avoid division and hostility, we need to be sincere and forgiving towards others as stated by the following Verses of the Qur'an:
7. Quran An – Nur Verse 22
وَلَا يَأْتَلِ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْفَضْلِ مِنكُمْ وَٱلسَّعَةِ أَن يُؤْتُوٓا۟ أُو۟لِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَٱلْمَسَٰكِينَ وَٱلْمُهَٰجِرِينَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَلْيَعْفُوا۟ وَلْيَصْفَحُوٓا۟ ۗ أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
Wa laa ya'tali ulul-fadli mingkum was-sa'ati ay yu'tuu ulil-qurbaa wal-masaakiina wal-muhaajiriina fii sabiilillaahi walya'fu walyasfahu, alaa tuhibbuna ay yagfirallaahu lakum, wallaahu gafurur rahiim
"And let not those who have strength and space among you swear that they will not give to their relatives, the needy, and those who erred in the way of Allah, and let them forgive and pang their breasts. Do you not want that God forgives you? And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."
8. Quran Asy – Syura Verse 37
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَٰٓئِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ وَإِذَا مَا غَضِبُوا۟ هُمْ يَغْفِرُونَ
Wallaziina yajtanibuna kabaa'iral-ismi wal-fawaahisya wa izaa maa gadibu hum yagfirun
"And those who avoid great sins and heinous deeds, and when they are angry, they forgive."
9. Quran Al – Baqarah Verse 109
وَدَّ كَثِيرٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ لَوْ يَرُدُّونَكُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ إِيمَٰنِكُمْ كُفَّارًا حَسَدًا مِّنْ عِندِ أَنفُسِهِم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَٱعْفُوا۟ وَٱصْفَحُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِىَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
wadda katsiirun min ahli alkitaabi law yarudduunakum min ba’di iimaanikum kuffaaran hasadan min ‘indi anfusihim min ba’di maa tabayyana lahumu alhaqqu fau’fuu waishfahuu hattaa ya/tiya allaahu bi-amrihi inna allaaha ‘alaa kulli syay-in qadiirun
Many of the People of the Book wish that they may return you to disbelief after you have believed. So forgive and be labeled, until Allah gives His command. Verily, Allah is Able to do all things.
10. Quran Yusuf Verse 92
قَالَ لَا تَثْرِيبَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ ۖ يَغْفِرُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۖ وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
Qāla lā taṡrība 'alaikumul-yaụm, yagfirullāhu lakum wa huwa ar-ḥamur-rāḥimīn
He said, "Today there is no slur against you, it may be that Allah will forgive you. And He is all-compassionate, all-compassionate.
11. Quran Al – Hijr Verse 85
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَءَاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ
wamaa khalaqnaa alssamaawaati waal-ardha wamaa baynahumaa illaa bialhaqqi wa-inna alssaa’ata laaatiyatun faishfahi alshshafha aljamiila
And We did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between them except with truth. And verily the Hour will surely come, so forgive them in a good manner.
faishfah ‘anhum waqul salaamun fasawfa ya’lamuuna
So turn away from them and say, "Peace." They will soon come to know.
13. Quran Ali Imran: 134
Allażīna yunfiqụna fis-sarrā`i waḍ-ḍarrā`i wal-kāẓimīnal-gaiẓa wal-'āfīna 'anin-nās, wallāhu yuḥibbul-muḥsinīn
14. Quran AL Hijr: 85
Wa mā khalaqnas-samāwāti wal-arḍa wa mā bainahumā illā bil-ḥaqq, wa innas-sā'ata la`ātiyatun faṣfaḥiṣ-ṣaf-ḥal jamīl
15. Quran Al-Baqarah: 109
وَدَّ كَثِيرٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَوْ يَرُدُّونَكُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ إِيمَانِكُمْ كُفَّارًا حَسَدًا مِنْ عِنْدِ أَنْفُسِهِمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الْحَقُّ فَاعْفُوا وَاصْفَحُوا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ اللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
16. Quran Ali Imran: 159
فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ لِنْتَ لَهُمْ وَلَوْ كُنْتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ الْقَلْبِ لَانْفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِكَ فَاعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِي الْأَمْرِ فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ
17. Quran Al-Maidah: 13
فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِمْ مِيثَاقَهُمْ لَعَنَّاهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَا قُلُوبَهُمْ قَاسِيَةً يُحَرِّفُونَ الْكَلِمَ عَنْ مَوَاضِعِهِ وَنَسُوا حَظًّا مِمَّا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ وَلَا تَزَالُ تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى خَائِنَةٍ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِنْهُمْ فَاعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَاصْفَحْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ
18. Quran Yusuf: 92
قَالَ لَا تَثْرِيبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْيَوْمَ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَهُوَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
19. Quran Yusuf: 97-98
قَالُوا يَا أَبَانَا اسْتَغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا خَاطِئِينَ * قَالَ سَوْفَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكُمْ رَبِّي إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
20. Quran An-Nur: 22
وَلَا يَأْتَلِ أُولُو الْفَضْلِ مِنْكُمْ وَالسَّعَةِ أَنْ يُؤْتُوا أُولِي الْقُرْبَى وَالْمَسَاكِينَ وَالْمُهَاجِرِينَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَلْيَعْفُوا وَلْيَصْفَحُوا أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ
21. Quran As-Syura: 39
22. Quran Az-Zukhruf: 89
فَاصْفَحْ عَنْهُمْ وَقُلْ سَلَامٌ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
23. Quran At-Taghabun: 14
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ وَأَوْلَادِكُمْ عَدُوًّا لَكُمْ فَاحْذَرُوهُمْ وَإِنْ تَعْفُوا وَتَصْفَحُوا وَتَغْفِرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

CLOSING REMARKS
Forgiving is certainly not an easy thing. But it doesn't make it any wrong for us to start learning to be sincere about the mistakes others have made on us. Let's create peace between each other by learning to forgive each other as described in the verses of the Quran above.
